The Collaborative Labeling and Appliance Standards Program (CLASP) is thrilled to welcome Mr. Christopher Stone to its team in the staff positions of Director of US Programs and Chief Technical Adviser (CTA) for Testing. For over twenty years , Chris has been involved in development of energy performance testing, test procedures and test laboratories. Since 1989, he has worked for Intertek Testing Services (ETL) in Cortland NY most recently serving as General Manager of Performance.

Chris has worked on various projects and programs related to energy performance testing for industry and governments. For the Air Conditioning Heating and Refrigeration Institute (AHRI) , the Association of Home Appliance Manufacturers (AHAM), National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) , the US Department of Energy (DOE) , the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), and Natural Resources Canada (NrCan) , Chris has provided testing services and collaborated on technical standards committees. He is a member of various ASHRAE and ISO working groups. His product experience includes: refrigerators; air conditioning equipment; furnaces and boilers; water heaters; motors; ballasts; and consumer electronics. Chris has worked on various projects related to energy performance testing for industry and governments. DOE has committed to a six-fold increase in standards activities compared with the previous 18 years. In addition to increasing the pace of revision of existing standards , the Department is addressing further standards and test procedure requirements included in the Energy Policy Act of 2005 (EPAct 2005) and the Energy Independence and Security Act of 2007 (EISA). Chris’ deep testing experience will be an invaluable aide to CLASP’s efforts to support best practice in its US program.

In his role as CTA for Testing, Chris will also offer CLASP’s international programs his expertise. While at Intertek, Chris was responsible for setting up the Intertek laboratory in New Delhi, India— a key subcontract lab for the Bureau of Energy Efficiency (BEE). For the China National Institute of Standardization (CNIS), he has worked as an expert adviser on test facility design, integration and correlation. Overall, he has worked as an advisor on energy performance testing for more than 10 countries including: US, China, Korea, Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Singapore, Thailand, and India. Chris will split his time between CLASP’s offices in Washington DC and his home office in Cortland, NY in addition to traveling as needed to CLASP’s partner countries in Asia and Latin America. Chris will begin in this new and exclusive role on August 12th. His new email address, cstone@clasponline.org, will be working upon his arrival.
