DEDE Enforces 125% Tax Break for Users of Energy Saving Appliances

BANGKOK, 6 May 2010 (NNT) — Business operators and qualified public can now receive additional tax breaks by using the energy saving electronics under the 19-energy saving electronics and appliances list specified by the Department of Alternative Energy Development and Efficiency (DEDE), Thailand.

The list includes refrigerators, air conditioners with size no more than 36,000 BTU, electronic fans, lamps, gas, water boiler and the T5 energy saving light bulb. All products listed above must be certified with the energy-saving label number five.

For SME business operators using variation of electronic appliances, the DEDE has specified boilers, chillers and heat pump to be included in the list.

DEDE Director-general Krairit Nilkuha outlined the criteria includes business owners and operators and citizens without a fixed income are qualified under the project. These people can receive an additional 25% tax break, totaling up to a 125% tax break, Mr Krairit said. The move is following the department’s energy saving initiatives to promote and encourage efficient use and to save energy.
