About the Organization:

The Collaborative Labeling and Appliance Standards Program (CLASP) is an international non-profit organization whose mission is to serve as the primary international voice and resource for energy efficiency standards and labeling worldwide.

CLASP provides best practice technical expertise on standards and labeling policies in order to achieve high energy and carbon reduction impacts. CLASP organizes teams of local and international experts to provide technical support to governments and organizations working to develop energy efficiency standards and labeling (S&L) policies.

Position

The Finance Associate (FA) will administer accounting, budgeting, and contracting activities under the direction of the Chief Operations Officer.  The FA develops routine and ad hoc financial reports for CLASP senior staff to ensure the regular flow of accurate and relevant financial information. The FA will implement short-and long-range departmental goals, objectives, policies, and operating procedures in accordance with CLASP standards.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Maintain an accurate and current general ledger on QuickBooks accounting software.
  • Participate in the development and implementation of finance, budgeting, accounting, billing, and auditing procedures.
  • Establish and maintain appropriate internal controls.
  • Prepare financial reports for COO
  • Prepare financials for Board meetings
  • Assist in the preparation of annual program and operating budgets
  • Regularly prepare cash flow analysis
  • Assist in planning and organizing for the year-end audit; responsible for responding to auditors’ requests.
  • Assist in analytical reviews to guide decision making processes.
  • Assist in preparation of annual 990.
  • Oversee the processing of expenditures, revenues, and payroll. Ensure all control and support documents are complete and properly filed.
  • To this end, he or she will prepare and maintain the financial information needed to conduct monthly financial reviews. Monitor upload of overseas field transactions into QuickBooks and review field cash account balances.
  • Manage CLASP contracts and track pending payments.
  • Other duties as assigned

QUALIFICATIONS

REQUIRED: Extensive accounting knowledge and proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and Quickbooks accounting software. Successful candidates will be able to manage several projects simultaneously. Other desired qualities include, foreign language skills and experience working in an international non-profit or national non-profit preferred.

EDUCATIION:  Bachelors Degree, CPA preferred.

 2-5 years of experience in finance or accounting position

The expected start date for this position is August 2010. The position will be located in Washington, D.C. CLASP offers a generous benefits package and a competitive salary that is commensurate with experience.
