CLASP worked in South Africa from 2002-2006 assisting South Africa’s Department of Minerals and Energy (DME), the United Nations Development Program (UNDP), and the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) in assessing the potential for S&L and supporting implementation of a new energy label.
Specific tasks accomplished by CLASP, in collaboration with DME, UNDP, and USAID, in South Africa included completing an initial trip to South Africa to survey the potential for an S&L program; contributing to the launch of an S&L program for appliances; developing S&L advocacy tools & forums; forming an in-country S&L working group; providing analysis for national communications campaigns to support label; conducting capacity building activities; and establishing a list of technical needs and follow-up work requested by local stakeholders.
Funding for CLASP’s work in South Africa came from the USAID.
