CLASP worked in Egypt from 2000-2005 assisting Egypt’s Office of Energy Planning (OEP), the Egyptian Organization for Standards (EOS), the Egyptian Electricity Holding Company, and Nexant (acting as contractors to the USAID Mission Office in Egypt) in the development of a national appliance-labeling program.

Egypt mapSpecific tasks accomplished by CLASP, in collaboration with OEP, EOS, and the Egyptian Electricity Holding Company, in Egypt included developing partner agencies in Egypt; providing support for stakeholders interested in Egypt’s national S&L plan; conducting labeling design and implementation workshops; completing needs assessments; providing technical assistance for bids evaluation, program initiation, and start up; and helping to establish a testing laboratory for the national energy efficiency and labeling program.

Funding for CLASP's work in Egypt came from the United Nations Department of Economic and Social Affairs and the U.S.-Egypt Joint Commission for Science &Technology Cooperation.
