Making Appliance Energy Efficiency the New Global Standard

Global Research

CLASP – as part of its organizational mission – facilitates international cooperation and best practices information sharing among S&L policy makers and practitioners worldwide. CLASP’s Global Research team takes a systematic and progressive approach for accelerating global timelines for S&L activities and information sharing at a global scale by conducting global research and analysis on S&L topics of relevance internationally and supporting training, capacity building, and knowledge exchange to expand and strengthen the expertise of S&L practitioners worldwide.

CLASP has identified untapped global potential to save 3.1 Gt CO2/year by 2020 through enhanced appliance efficiency measures.  These measures include increasing the product coverage and stringency of minimum efficiency standards; implementing effective energy labeling schemes; creating a global pool of skilled S&L practitioners; accelerating monitoring, verification, and enforcement (MV&E) of established programs; and expanding global information dissemination.

CLASP's Global Research team engages in a wide range of S&L information dissemination projects including maintaining the CLASP website and S&L database with current policy information, conducting original research and analysis, developing best-practice guidebooks, and sharing information with policy-makers through conferences and publications. These efforts serve CLASP’s big-picture goal of putting S&L best practice into the hands of the people who need it when they need it to accelerate global implementation of best-in-class appliance standards and labeling policies.

Funding for current Global Research team projects comes from the ClimateWorks Foundation and various APEC Economies.
