CLASP’s U.S. team bolsters national and state energy efficiency S&L initiatives – and the U.S. energy efficiency S&L community in general – by assisting with the techno-economic analysis for MEPS, labels, and test procedures, facilitating information exchange on product and process innovation and S&L best practices, and supporting incentives initiatives for efficient appliances.
In the U.S. there is a potential to save 500 Mt CO2/year by 2020 through supporting the establishment of S&L; gaining industry support for energy efficiency; and redesigning test procedures so they more accurately measure energy use and promote technological innovation.
CLASP is a part of an active and coordinated U.S. S&L community that includes experts from national projects – such as the Alliance to Save Energy, the American Council for an Energy-Efficient Economy, the Appliance Standards Awareness Project, the Consortium for Energy Efficiency, and the Natural Resources Defense Council – and multiple regional entities, utilities, and states. Progress on U.S. appliance efficiency has been steady due in large part to national and state appliance standards and labeling initiatives and the work of the U.S. S&L community.
CLASP, utilizing funding from the ClimateWorks Foundation, supports the existing network of standards and labels experts already operating in the U.S. to increase the stringency and efficacy associated with S&L implementation at the national level. Improved U.S. S&L regulations correspond to further energy efficiency savings.
CLASP provides assistance to the U.S. energy efficiency S&L community – including the Department of Energy (DOE), Energy Star, Energy Guide, state efficiency programs, Energy Foundation (EF) grantees, utilities, and industry – to achieve the goal of reducing energy use of U.S. appliances by 25 percent from business-as-usual projections.
Recent accomplishments of CLASP’s U.S. team include providing technical assistance to standards and labeling experts and working to improve test procedures with the end goal of improving efficiency for products undergoing policy revision in the U.S.
