CLASP's Assistance

CLASP's China Team provides S&L assistance to Chinese policymakers to support China's increasing emphasis on sustainable energy and its goal to reduce energy intensity of the economy by 40-45 percent by 2020 from 2005 levels.

Currently, this assistance comprises product-specific market studies, development and revision of MEPS, compliance monitoring and enforcement, label design and implementation, lab capacity testing development, and general program support.

Technical Assistance CLASP's assistance to CNIS encompasses all aspects of a world-class standards and labeling policy portfolio.  CLASP provides technical assistance to CNIS in the form of product specific market studies; development and revision of MEPS; enforcement, monitoring and compliance of S&L; appliance rating label design and implementation; lab capacity testing development; and general program support.

S&L Development and Implementation Assistance CLASP has been supporting the development and implementation of S&L for appliances, lighting, and equipment in China for the past decade. With international assistance from CLASP, the China Sustainable Energy Program (CSEP) and others, China has implemented 41 minimum energy performance standards (MEPS) and expanded the coverage of its voluntary energy efficiency label to over 20 residential, commercial, and industrial products.
